Göteborg Oboe Quartet (GOQ) premieres The Sound of the Faroe Islands.

The Göteborg Oboe Quartet was founded in 2020 in Gothenburg, Sweden. The ensemble has quickly established itself as the only permanent oboe quartet in the Nordic region and is particularly known for its unique instrumentation and innovative approach to repertoire.

This program focuses exclusively on Faroese composers and offers the quartet a chance to deeply engage with Faroese culture and nature. In the Nordic tradition, countries often highlight only their own composers. One of GOQ’s goals is to share the richness of all Nordic composers across national borders.

In 2025, the ensemble will release its debut album Fred i vår tid (“Peace in Our Time”). This marks GOQ’s first project featuring newly written Nordic music composed specifically for oboe quartet. With The Sound of the Faroe Islands, the quartet deepens its knowledge of Faroese music – and hopes to bring the Faroe Islands along on tour throughout the rest of the Nordic region.
