Film: Seinasta paradís á jørð

Where: Høllin
Duration: 90 min.

Seinasta paradís á jørð is a moving experience, a snapshot of a changing world. The film intertwines the story of the life as working people in a little, Faroese village with the personal story of the main characters, Kári (Sámal H. Hansen) and his sister Silja (Bjørg. B. Egholm).

In the film, Kári is trying to find his place in an existence where life’s circumstanses, love, friends, and society pull him in different directions.

It is a time of transition, where fewer and fewer choose to stay in the small village. But Kári is a homebody. He appreciates the simple life of the village. Kári and Silja are silently grieving the loss of their mother. Kári finds solace in his work at the fish factory, while Silja struggles to finish school. Their father is unable to cope with life at home, and returns to sea, to the safe and familiar life on board. But the fish factory is threatened by closure, and life in the village is changing.

The film is directed by Sakaris Stórá. He had his breakthrough in 2017 with the film Dreymar við havið. He had already gained recognition with the short films Summarnátt and Vetrarmorgun, and the Norwegian short film Passasjeren

The script is written by Stórá in collaboration with Tommy Oksen and Mads Stegger. Cinematography by award-winning Virginie Surdej.

Seinasta paradís á jørð is produced by Jón Hammes for Kykmyndir and Adomeit Film, with financial support by Dansk Filminstitutt, FilmFyn, DR, Creative Europe, Mentamálaráðið, Vinnumálaráðið, and Filmshúsið.
