The Faroese art scene

The population of the Faroe Islands may be small at around 50,000, yet the Faroese  arts scene is brimming with talent and creativity.

Be it classic oil paintings capturing the natural beauty of the Faroese landscape under the ever-shifting northern skies or captivating self-portraits or even contemporary interpretations of island life, Faroese art offers something for everyone.

The captivating works of Edward Fuglø in particular, one of the Faroes’ most distinguished artists, have gained international attention.

In addition, the islands boast a rich diversity of sculpture and glasswork – you’ll even find coloured glass adorning one of the Faroes’ underwater road tunnels, injecting life and colour into the most unexpected of spaces. Perhaps surprisingly, the Faroes are also home to a vibrant music scene, hosting a myriad of festivals each summer that draw music fans from across the islands and abroad alike.
