Important Information for Visitors Regarding Currency Exchange

Tips for Planning Your Visit

Traveling to the Faroe Islands offers a unique experience, characterized by stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Here’s a quick guide to get you started:

  • Weather: The weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers and waterproof clothing.
  • Transportation: Renting a car is the best way to explore, but public transportation is also available.
  • Currency: The local currency is the Danish krone (DKK), though most credit cards are accepted practically everywhere. Press here for DKK converter. NB!: American Express is not accepted in the Faroe Islands, as is the case with most of Europe.
  • Language: English is commonly spoken, but learning a few Faroese phrases can be helpful.
  • Accommodations: Book accommodations in advance, especially during peak seasons.
  • Dining: Try local food and be prepared for higher dining costs.
  • Safety: The islands are very safe, but travel insurance is recommended.
  • Activities: Enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, but respect the natural environment and follow safety guidelines.
  • Excursions/Events: We recommend bringing a smartphone or tablet, as many excursions and events require online booking and provide important details digitally.
  • NB: Hare hunting season lasts from November 2nd to December 31st. During this time, we strongly discourage anyone going hiking in the mountains in the hunting season, without consulting the landowner, and ask that you preferably go on Sundays when there are no ongoing hunts. Read more here.
