About Us
Welcome to Visit Tórshavn: Your gateway to the vibrant capital of the Faroe Islands!
Visit Tórshavn promotes and develops tourism in the municipality of Tórshavn.
We are continually working to develop sustainable tourism in the capital area, in collaboration with both public and private stakeholders.
Located in the centre of Tórshavn, our offices and information desk serve as a hub for thousands of visitors every year. We also coordinate events in the capital region.
Visit Tórshavn has a longstanding MICE-partnership with Visit Faroe Islands and the municipality of Tórshavn.
How it started
“The Tourist Information Centre in Tórshavn” (in Faroese, Kunningarstovan) was established in 1984, and was rebranded Visit Tórshavn in 2014. Visit Tórshavn is now working more holistically as both a TIC (Tourist Information Centre) and DMMO (Destination Markering & Management Organisation).
The Visit Tórshavn society
Visit Tórshavn is a society, members being local authorities, shops, hotels, bus companies, museums, individuals, etc. and it is our aim to represent their interest locally and wider afield.
Promotion & events
Visit Tórshavn is dedicated to showcasing the charm and culture of the Faroe Islands’ capital. Our efforts go beyond simple promotion; we actively work to enhance and develop Tórshavn as a premier travel destination.
We play a pivotal role in organizing and supporting a wide range of events throughout the year. We ensure that there is always something exciting for visitors to experience. Our team collaborates with local artists, musicians, and cultural organizations to bring these events to life, celebrating the rich heritage and modern creativity of Tórshavn.
Promotion is at the heart of what we do. We work closely with local businesses, artists, and tour operators to create compelling campaigns that capture the essence of Tórshavn. Through social media, travel fairs, and strategic partnerships, we aim to reach a global audience, inviting them to discover the unique experiences our town offers.
Destination Development
We are continually striving to develop sustainable tourism in the Tórshavn area, working in collaboration with both public and private stakeholders.
We are an active part of the annual Closed For Maintenance initiative; we host various networking events; we hold open-forum meetings with local people; we take part in international and national tourism projects; we work with improving wayfinding in our region; we produce informative brochures and signage, and we are continuously working towards tourism where citizens and visitors mutually respect each other.

Cruise
Our role is to greet visitors and ensure they have the best possible experience whilst visiting us.
In close collaboration with the Port of Tórshavn, we coordinate the opportunities in the city with cruiseships arriving.
In 2024 we hired a project manager for 6 months, to start developing a more sustainable cruise tourism, both short- and long-term.
