Addeq
Addeq is music born from a meeting between Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
It all began in 1987, when Faroese folk musicians, including Kristian Blak, traveled to Greenland to perform. There, they met the drum dancer Anda Kuitse from the village of Kulusuk.
Later, Kristian returned to Greenland to make music inspired by Anda Kuitse’s life and environment. This eventually led to an album, which Kristian and Anda recorded in the Faroe Islands together with African and Swedish musicians. The album was titled Addeq — the Greenlandic name for the bird known in Danish as havlit (long-tailed duck).
You will hear the album this afternoon, performed by Kristian Blak, Angelika Hansen, Heðin Ziska Davidsen, and Mikael Blak, joined on stage by Miké Thomsen.
Mike is an actor, dancer, and musician who learned East Greenlandic drum dancing from Anda Kuitse. He has previously played with Yggdrasil, Resterne af Rigsfællesskabet, and several other Faroese bands.
