F’LJÓÐ Living Room Concert w/Jakobina Ellingsgaard
With her, Jakobina has a band made up of Fróði Vestergaard and Páll Holm Lave. They are also known from the band Deiggj.
Jakobina, Páll and Fróði were all three part of the expatriate band “Flytifuglar” in the latter half of the 80s.
In 2024, Jakobina released the single “Læra vit nakrantíð” – a translation of the well-known song “Where Have All the Flowers Gone”, which the late Niels Midjord translated into Faroese.
In 2007, Jakobina released the album “jakobina rensl”, which was recorded in Nólsoy at Terji Rasmussen’s. A superb album with good lyrics and fine musicians. However, little has been heard of this album, but now Jakobina is really committing to performing songs from this release.
Jakobina was also singer and an important part of the release “Gluggamynd” with the band Glataðu Spælimenninir, which came out in 1982. There were several gems on this release – not least the big hit “Til Boga og allar nýføðingar í verðini” and “Leygarmorgun í Havn”. Jakobina wrote two of the songs on this release together with her brother Pauli.
At the living room concert, Jakobina, Fróði and Páll will look back and play songs from all of these releases.
ABOUT JAKOBINA
Jakobina Ellingsgaard grew up in Vágur. Her mother was from Vágur and her father from Suðuroy. They were four siblings. Pauli is the eldest, two years older than Jakobina, who will soon be 67½ years old and thus a pensioner.
Jakobina grew up with singing and instruments. Her mother and siblings played various instruments. Jakobina herself learned to play the guitar with the Salvation Army when she was 12 years old, and then learned more through the family. She also tried other instruments, but has mostly played guitar.
In the 70s, her brother played in a band, an orchestra, called Oreon. Jakobina spent a lot of time with them and sometimes also got to play with them. When Oreon played at a music competition in Sørvágur, Jakobina played electric rhythm guitar on the song “Hotel California” as well as on a few other songs. Then the presenter said that this was “the first female Faroese rock musician” to step onto the stage.
Jakobina has also sung, and still sings, in a choir. First with Ljómi in Vágur, then in Glymur and now in the Vágur Choir. She has also played and sung at many folk music festivals together with her brother Pauli and others, and has taken part in radio and television programmes several times.
See you on Sunday evening 26 April at 20:00 at Magnus Heinasonar gøta 8!
