F’LJÓÐ Living Room Concert with Jakobina Ellingsgaard & Band

Jakobina, Páll, and Fróði were all members of the expat group “Flytifuglar” in the late 1980s.

In 2024, Jakobina released the single “Læra vit nakrantíð”—a Faroese translation of the famous song “Where Have All the Flowers Gone,” translated by the late Niels Midjord.

In 2007, Jakobina released the album Jakobina Rensl, which was recorded in Nólsoy with Terji Rasmussen. It is a fantastic album featuring great lyrics and talented musicians. While the album hasn’t been heard much recently, Jakobina is now focused on performing tracks from this release.

Jakobina was also a singer and a key part of the 1982 album Gluggamynd with the band Glataðu Spælimenninir. That release featured several gems, including the major hit “Til Boga og allar nýføðingar í verðini” and “Leygarmorgun í Havn.” Jakobina co-wrote two of the songs on that album with her brother, Pauli.

At this living room concert, Jakobina, Fróði, and Páll will look back and perform songs from all of these releases.

Jakobina grew up in Vágur. Her mother was from Vágur and her father from Sørvágur. She is one of four siblings; her brother Pauli is the eldest, two years older than Jakobina, who will soon turn 67½ and reach retirement age.

Jakobina grew up surrounded by song and instruments. Her mother and siblings played various instruments. Jakobina herself learned to play guitar at the Salvation Army when she was 12 years old and further developed her skills through her family. She experimented with other instruments but has primarily played the guitar.

In the 70s, her brother played in a band called Oreon. Jakobina spent a lot of time with them and occasionally joined in. When Oreon performed at a music competition in Sørvágur, Jakobina played electric rhythm guitar on “Hotel California” and a few other songs. At the time, the announcer noted that she was the “first female Faroese rock musician” to take the stage.

Jakobina has also been a longtime choir singer, performing first with Ljómur in Vágur, then Glymur, and now the Vágur Choir (Vágakórið). She has performed at many folk music festivals alongside her brother Pauli and others, and has appeared on national radio and television several times.
