Earth Hour 2026

Earth Hour (Jarðartímin) will be happening on Saturday evening, March 22, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
During this hour, as we highlight climate change and environmental issues, all public lights in the municipality will be turned off.
You can also take part by switching off your lights and using this time to do something that makes a difference for both us and our natural surroundings.

Since 2009, the municipality has turned off streetlights and organized events during this hour in March, making it the first municipality in the Faroe Islands to support the initiative.
The moment when the lights go out is also a great opportunity to discuss what we can do together to protect and preserve the nature we live in and depend on.

The international Earth Hour organizers state on their website, earthhour.org, that the movement’s initial goal was to raise awareness of climate change. However, over time, the destruction of animal and plant species has become an equally important focus.
