A Day on Mars
Where: Skálin
Duration: 22-22 February
In 2021, Perseverance landed on Mars – a nuclear-powered rover from NASA whose mission is to search for signs of life. Uni Árting, who is part of the mission, and Jens L. Thomsen have gained access to material from Perseverance, which they have artistically processed. The result is a sound work where radiograms and recordings from a day on Mars are woven together into a very special sound experience in Skálin. For the project, they have also collaborated with Villiam Soo, who visualizes and designs the lighting for the work in Skálanum.
This is not the first time Jens L. Thomsen and Uni Árting have explored the borderland between science and art. With their remarkable project Føroyar 5.2, they examined the question “What do the Faroe Islands sound like?” in a sound and video installation based on seismic data from the Faroese underground.
