Addeq & Jákup Tórgarð Trio (GL/FO) – VETRARJAZZ 2026

In 1987, folk musicians from the Faroe Islands, including Kristian Blak, participated in the inauguration of the Nordic organization NAPA. The Faroese musicians performed in East Greenland, and formed a good relationship with the traditional drummer Anda Kuitse, from the village
of Kulusuk.

Later, Kristian returned to East Greenland and performed music inspired by Anda’s life and environment. The following year, Anda and Kristian recorded this concert in the Faroe Islands,
together with Sámi, African and Swedish musicians. The title of the album was “Addeq” – the Greenlandic name of the bird, which in English is called long-tailed duck.

Now in 2026, we perform “Addeq”with Miké Thomsen. Anda Kuitse was his teacher in East Greenlandic drum dancing. Miké has played with Yggdrasil, Resterne af Rigsfællesskabet and several bands here in Faroe Islands.

Miké, who grew up in Ilulissat, is both an actor, dancer, as well as a musician and will, for this occasion, perform music from Addeq in addition to other music by indigenous people, together with Kristian, Angelika, Heðin and Mikael.

  • Miké Thomsen (vocal, drums)
  • Angelika Hansen (violin)
  • Heðin Ziska Davidsen (guitar)
  • Kristian Blak (piano)
  • Mikael Blak (bass)

Jákup Tórgarð´s new and exciting jazz trio is performing in Norðurlandahúsið, on Sunday, the 25th of January. The music is described as a fresh and virtuosic blend of modern jazz and classical impressionism.
The trio had their debut at Summartónar 2025 in The Nordic House and at The Art Museum in Sandur.

  • Jákup Tórgarð (piano)
  • James Goodwin (percussion)
  • Torleik Mortensen (bass)
