Blok 5

Where: Skálin
Duration: 2 hours

Nuuk, March 14, 1970. A powerful gas explosion in Block 5 claims the lives of 11 people, injures many more, and shakes all of Greenland.

This tragic chapter in Greenland’s history forms the basis for the documentary Blok 5, created by Anders Berthelsen. The film is the result of six years of work, with a strong focus on authentic material to portray the time around the explosion as accurately as possible.

The film also tells the story of Eli Damberg, a craftsman who survived the explosion.

At the screening, Anders Berthelsen will introduce the film together with Klaus Georg Hansen, who will provide a brief historical introduction to the period 1950–1979. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
