Double Concert: Glasull and Eero Koivistoinen Quartet (FO/FI)

Where: Klingran
Duration: 100 min. (including intermission)

Two generations of jazz meet as part of Havnar Jazzfelag’s 50th anniversary.

Glasull
The Glasull Quartet consists of four young Faroese musicians – Treysti Holm (guitar), Heini Hofgaard Johannesen (bass), Inga Laksáfoss Simonsen (keyboard), and Asger Schmidt (drums). The quartet plays fusion jazz featuring both original compositions and fresh interpretations of established jazz standards.

Eero Koivistoinen
From Finland comes the acclaimed saxophonist Eero Koivistoinen, who first visited the Faroe Islands in 1979. Since then, he has returned several times and has established himself as one of the strongest voices in Finnish jazz. This time, he will be on stage together with Edvard N. Debess (double bass), Pauli R. Poulsen (guitar), and James P. Goodwin (drums) – together forming the Edvard Nyholm Debess Quartet.

Havnar Jazzfelag
Havnar Jazzfelag was founded in Hoydalar in November 1975. In the early years, the association hosted member evenings at the Hoydalar Upper Secondary School before moving its concert activities to Gamla Havnar Klubbi. Already in 1976, the association began collaborating with foreign groups eager to visit the Faroe Islands. The following year, Havnar Jazzfelag released the first LP, Jazz í Føroyum (Jazz in the Faroes). Later, the record label Tutl was established and took over publishing.

The association has played a significant role in Faroese musical life and has inspired the creation of several other music organizations, including Føroysk Tónaskøld, Fólkatónleikarafelagið, and Føroya Tónleikafelag. For the past 15 years, Havnar Jazzfelag has also organized the annual Vetrarjazz Festival every January.
