Kathak is one of the eight major classical Indian dance forms. Originating in northern India, Kathakars are known as storytellers who use dance to convey tales from epics such as Mahabharata and Ramayana through hand gestures, rhythmic footwork, and graceful movements. Later, the dance was also performed in temples and influenced by Persian and Mughal culture.
Bachata is a Latin American partner dance with roots in salsa. The tempo is slower than salsa, and there is a strong focus on style, connection, and musicality. In the workshop, you’ll have the chance to practise the basic steps — with or without a partner — before moving on to some more advanced techniques.
Samba is a lively and rhythmic dance originating from Brazil, often performed to energetic music with a clear beat. It is characterised by quick movements and a distinctive “bounce” technique in the legs. Samba can be danced both solo and as a partner dance.
Modern jive is a social partner dance that combines elements of swing, rock’n’roll, and salsa. It’s danced to a wide variety of music styles and is known for its simple steps, smooth movements, and focus on partner connection. Modern jive is easy to learn and popular in dance communities around the world.
