Experience some of the most skilled craftspeople Greenland has to offer today.
The exhibition Kusanartuliat – Impressions & Expressions reveals the richness and diversity of contemporary Greenlandic craftsmanship.
Here you’ll find paper made from Greenlandic plants, works created from fish skin and seal skin, whimsical figures crafted from materials of various animals, tufted tupilaks, soapstone sculptures, jewellery inspired by Greenland’s nature, and small boxes made from local materials.
Through a wealth of materials and artistic expressions, traditional Greenlandic culture and contemporary craft meet in a vibrant field of tension.
For some of the artists, the boundaries between the functional, the mythical, and the artistic are blurred – much like in Sami art. Others engage more directly in dialogue with history and Greenland’s social development – from a colonial past towards a renewed sense of national identity.
The exhibition is curated by Kristine Spore Kreutzmann, Chair of the Greenlandic Artists’ Association Kimik, and has previously been shown at Bornholm’s Centre for Craft, Grønbechs Gaard, and Nääs Konsthantverk.
