Learn about the fascinating geology of the Faroe Islands

Where: Skálin
Duration: 45 min

Did you know that the Faroe Islands were once full of volcanoes? That you can find ancient minerals and read the stories in the rocks right beneath your feet?

Join us for a family-friendly event where we present the new book Føroysk Mineral & Grótsløg, which is filled with photographs, fascinating Faroese geology, and beautiful minerals and rock types – each with its own story.

The authors will talk about how the islands were formed, and children will have the chance to see real minerals and rock samples and learn how to recognise them in nature.

This event is perfect for curious children and adults of all ages!

Uni Árting is a geologist and has worked for over 20 years at Jarðfeingi, mapping the geology both on land and offshore. He has personally collected many of the minerals and rock types featured in the book.

Barbara Biskopstø Thorsteinsson is both a trained geologist and a graphic designer and is responsible for the book’s design. She works at Jarðfeingi on various geological matters, both on land and on the continental shelf.

Lis Mortensen is a physical geographer and has worked with physical geography both in the Faroe Islands and throughout the Arctic region.

Organisers: Barbara Biskopstø Thorsteinsson and Uni Árting.
