Lecture: »To ill to be heard«

Bolette Meisner was born three months prematurely as the middle child of three triplet girls. During the first three months, she was on a ventilator and came close to dying several times. This led to serious disturbances in her nervous system and laid the foundation for a number of disorders that made her childhood and youth very difficult.

Bolette has struggled with anxiety, stress, depression, PTSD, OCD, anorexia, trauma, and a psychosis. She has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital, where exposure therapy only worsened her condition, and the system’s only other tool was large amounts of psychiatric medication. She was later placed in a residential facility, where manipulation and humiliation apparently were part of the approach.
Rape, assaults, narcissistic relationships, self-harm, and suicide attempts are also part of her heavy burden.

In this full-evening lecture, Bolette does not only tell her personal story. It is also the story of the path out of these problems and back to herself—a path she now, as a psychotherapist, trauma therapist, and author, helps others to follow. It is a path based on modern research in trauma and developmental psychology, and one that focuses far more on the context in which the problems arose than on searching for faults in her clients or solely trying to eliminate their symptoms.

The primary target audience for the lecture is people experiencing mental distress, relatives, educators, teachers, and therapists, but there is also much to gain for others who are interested in people and the human psyche.
