New Year’s Concert 2026

Where: Stórhøll
Duration: 120 min (incl. break)

Look forward to magnificent music, a festive atmosphere, and unforgettable moments when the Faroe Islands Symphony Orchestra invites you to this year’s New Year’s Concert featuring soloists and choir.

This concert will be particularly special, as it marks the final time that Bernharður Wilkinson takes the podium as conductor of the orchestra.

Over two evenings, the concert hall will be filled with grand musical experiences, heartfelt moments, and a solemn New Year’s spirit as the orchestra, choir, and Faroese soloists welcome the audience into the new year.

Faroese Soloists and Choir
For this New Year’s concert, the Symphony Orchestra has invited a number of Faroese soloists to join them on stage — musicians with whom Bernharður Wilkinson has collaborated over the years. We can already reveal that Elin Rasmussen (violin) will be among the soloists. Elin won the Stella Polaris competition in 2025 and is currently studying at the Malmö Academy of Music.

Also performing is Ari Hammer Joensen (organ), who earned an impressive second place in the Stella Polaris competition earlier this year and currently studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Sopranos Birita Poulsen and Hanne Marit Mordal Iversen will also take part, and additional soloists will be announced later.

With around 85 dedicated singers, the choir is an indispensable part of the New Year’s concert. Those who have experienced this tradition before know there is hardly anything more beautiful than the harmony between choir and symphony orchestra.
