On the ‘Kvæði’ album, released in November last year, Teitur and Girls in Airports reinterpret Faroese folk music—rhymes, chants, and ballads—and present it in a jazzy, electronic, and indie-influenced style.
The collaboration began in 2022, when Teitur and Girls in Airports set out to create new music and perform concerts together. This quickly developed into the ‘Kvæði’ album.
The idea behind the project is to cast Faroese folk heritage in a new light and give today’s generation access to it in ways we haven’t experienced before.
Gaffa.dk gives the album excellent reviews, awarding it 5 out of 6 stars, and writes:
“…the result is impressive. The music is highly unusual. It masterfully balances melodic folk music, varied vocal jazz, contemporary electro-acoustic music, and the more undefinable indie element that both Teitur and Girls in Airports excel at.
(…)
Teitur and Girls in Airports succeed in renewing the old songs and guiding them in new, exciting directions which—in my opinion—open the doors to the world once again. The album is exciting. It breaks new ground. It challenges.”
They have so far performed several concerts in Denmark, with more planned for this summer.
The concert at Finsen in September will be their first performance in the Faroe Islands.
