The Christmas and Family Concert

The Faroe Islands’ largest Christmas orchestra performs wonderful Christmas music – featuring both Faroese and international pieces on the program.

On December 6 and 7, the annual Christmas and family concerts will take place at the Nordic House. Due to high demand, there will be no fewer than four concerts this year – two on Saturday and two on Sunday.

As in previous years, the concerts are a collaboration with the music school system. This is the concert where many talented music school students have the opportunity to perform alongside some of the finest musicians in the Faroe Islands’ largest orchestra.

This year’s soloists are violinists Hjalti V. Sámalsson, Oda Drós Østerø, Joanna R. Wang, and Elin Rasmussen. All four are studying music at the conservatory and will perform Vivaldi’s Concerto for Four Violins in B minor.

Four children’s and youth choirs will participate in this year’s concert: Stella and the Youth Choir from Tórshavn Music School, the Children’s Choir at the Music School in Vágar, and the Children’s Choir in Nes Parish Music School. The singers, aged 9 to 16, will perform well-known Faroese Christmas songs.

The choir directors are Edith Dahl Jakobsen, Katrin á Borg Johannesen, Joanna Johansen, Ásbjørn Berthelsen, and Sigrið Sivertsen.
