Your Voice Matters (IS)
Where: Skálin
Duration: Drop-in kl. 10-16
What is important? Peace on Earth? Ice cream for breakfast? The right to vote for children? Pets in school?
In this workshop, children are invited to express what matters to them. Through a short introduction to the importance of standing up for what you believe in, the idea of justice, the value of personal expression, and democratic participation, the children are encouraged to reflect on what is meaningful to them – and what kind of change they would like to see in the world. Only imagination sets the limits.
Afterwards, the participants receive guidance in creating strong slogans or visual expressions so their message can reach the wider community. The next step is to paint a sign on cardboard and/or create a badge featuring their message.
The workshop focuses on creativity, play, justice, and personal expression.
The event concludes with a small demonstration, where the children can walk around, chant slogans, and demand exactly what they wish for.
The workshop is hosted by Ariana Katrín Katrínardóttir and Maryam Holton, who have
successfully led similar workshops during Reykjavík Culture Night, Reykjavík Pride, and the Reykjavík
Art Museum’s children’s program.
