The National Gallery of the Faroe Islands

At the National Gallery you can experience Faroese nature and the unique landscape transformed into pictures. There are paintings depicting the green mountains of the Faroe Islands, colourful villages, and the sea that roars around the 18 islands.

Among the unique pieces, you will find works made of Faroese horsehair and a life-size whale made of 32,000 toy soldiers. One of the main attractions in the art museum’s collection is a room made of glass and mirrors, where you optically can see 700 meters up and down!

The National Gallery offers an exceptional art experience in a wonderful scenic setting. In the museum’s foyer, you will find a great café and shop as well as workshop tables with fun activities for children. You do not have to buy a ticket to use the café, shop and workshop – it is free and open to everyone. There is also free WiFi.

We recommend that the visit to the art museum is rounded off with a walk through the park in the direction of the city centre, from which the museum’s architecture can be enjoyed. The museum’s many black-stained gables are reminiscent of traditional Faroese boathouses.
