Vøggan (The Cradle)

VØGGAN – A Physical Store & An Online Shop

Vøggan was established in November 2000 by Rógvi and Annie Nielsen from Oyndarfjørður. They founded the company and opened the store in Runavík in November 2000. In 2004, the store was relocated to Tórshavn, into a small space in the city center. Later, it moved to Heykavegur in Háls, where it shared a location with Thomas Dam at Háls, though only in a fraction of the space as it exists today.

In September 2007, Tóra Johansen purchased the company and has owned and operated the business, Sp/f Vøggan, ever since. After a few years at Háls, Vøggan moved back to the city center on November 29, 2014, this time to Niels Finsensgøta 18. In March 2019, the store expanded by adding an upper floor, and in 2020, the store relocated back to Heykavegur, where Vøggan remains today.

In September 2021, Vøggan opened a new store at Biskupstorg in Klaksvík, alongside other shops and the café Fríða. The goal was to be closer to customers in Norðoyggjar, which was a long-held dream. Unfortunately, the Klaksvík store proved unsustainable and closed after one year.

Work on the online shop had been ongoing for a long time, and efforts continue to improve it. Numerous updates need to be maintained. However, the online store was completed just in time when COVID-19 began to impact the Faroe Islands in 2020, making it impossible to welcome customers into the physical store.
