Guided Walk in Tórshavn’s Old Town, Tinganes

kr. 1.900,00

Tinganes is the historical core of the country’s capital.

Dividing two harbours, this flat rocky outcrop is dominated by delightfully muddled turf-roofed structures that, quite unassumingly, are home to the Faroese Home Rule government (Føroya Landssýri).

Description

Historic Tinganes is the oldest part of Tórshavn and still today houses the Prime Minister’s office and several government departments.

This district has always been the political and commercial heart of the Faroe Islands and over the centuries has been a place of murky commercial dealings and political struggles as well as romance and intrigue. Who knows, you may even bump into the Faroese Prime Minister as you wander around here.

Even if you don’t and only come across the free range chicken that call Tinganes home, you’ll soon understand that tradition and modernity go hand in hand in this very special part of the Faroese capital.
